XS Latin triumphs at British Open

Eight teams were entered but two late withdrawals meant that six teams contested the 2017 British Open Formation Championship.  In recent years, this championship has been dominated by teams from China and the USA, but with no teams from either country in attendance this year the title was destined to go to a different country.

XS Latin secures seventh consecutive UK championship title

The growth of formation dancing in the UK in recent years saw the 2017 UK Championships being expanded to two days.  The Adult Formation Championship took place on Saturday 20th June, on the same day as the Junior 4 Couple and the Juvenile 8 Couple Championships.

XS LATIN B WINS WDC EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP!

The WDC European Championship, held in Blackpool on 16th April 2017, offered a number of firsts for XS Latin. It was the first time XS had competed at the WDC Championship, it was the first time XS Latin B had performed their new Planets routine at a British competition and, significantly, it was the first competition that XS Latin B had attended without the A team.

XS Success in Emsdetten

XS Latin started its 2017 campaign by taking both the A and B teams to the ThyGer Dance Gala in Emsdetten, Germany.  Sixteen teams were entered for the competition but a late withdrawal from one German team meant that fifteen formations took to the floor to compete for the title.

BYU Pip Beijing to British Open Title as Two XS Teams Make the Final

2016 saw the British Open Festival amend its regular timetable and the Latin Formation Championship move from the usual Friday slot to Wednesday evening.  Eight high standard teams arrived to contest the title with a semi-final and final round being scheduled.

Wicked
2016 – 2017

In October 2015 members of the A team, led by Stuart Cork, led a crowdfunding campaign to raise money to have our new music produced by a professional orchestra and singers.  Thanks to the generous support of friends and family, the team exceeded all expectations and were able to enlist the support of the experienced German producer Knut Kornatz and his orchestra and singers to produce the new XS music.  And Wicked was born.

Vice-Champions at the Zala Open

On 25th October 2015, XS Latin A team competed for the first time in Hungary.  The Zala Open, hosted by World Championship semi-finalists Gala TE, was held in Zalaegerszeg and, with the British National and World Championships on the horizon, promised to provide the team with a good opening competition for the season.

XS Latin Achieve Top Two Places at UK Adult Championship 2015

The 2015 UK Formation Championships, held in the Kings Hall, Stoke-on-Trent, once again provided a superb end to the summer season for XS Latin. Mark & Jayne Shutlar and Jason & Shemayne Parkinson had, for the second time, organised the Championships with efficiency and produced a competition which had a wonderful atmosphere and over 35 enthusiastic teams competing for an array of titles.

Vogue
2015 – 2016

With a record number of members, XS Latin B started the 2015 season looking forward to a new challenge.  Given her prolific back-catalogue of music, Madonna has been used as a basis for a latin formation routine relatively rarely.  However, the popular and energetic music was to prove a perfect choice for XS Latin B and the music was wonderfully mixed by the A Team’s Kien Trinh.

Ten Teams Contest British Open Championships 2015

Ten latin formation teams, including teams from China, USA, Germany, Hong Kong, England and Wales, arrived to contest the 2015 British Open Championships. The Championships, the 90th Anniversary of the Blackpool Dance Festival, had been memorable with the retirement of four of the world’s top professional latin couples on the Wednesday night, including Michael Malitowski and Joanna Leunis,who announced their retirement from competitions just after having won their record-breaking 8th Professional Latin Championship.

XS Latin A makes the final in the Netherlands

XS Latin’s first competition for 2015 involved a trip to Arnhem in the Netherlands.  This was the first time that XS had competed in the Netherlands and the team were very much looking forward to the competition.  As the B team were busy working on a new routine, the trip was for the A team only and involved a first A team competition for three dancers from the B team’s line-up in Vienna in December.

The Girl From Tiger Bay
2014 – 2015

At the end of the 2009 season the team produced a Shirley Bassey music, intending to start work on it the following year.  However, at the 2009 British National Championships, Ystrad Fawr danced a Shirley Bassey programme and the team’s visit to Tiger Bay was put on hold for four years.  But XS Latin always intended to return to the idea and, after winning their sixth British National title with Bat Out Of Hell, the team started working on The Girl From Tiger Bay in January 2014.
