Wicked
2016 – 2017

In October 2015 members of the A team, led by Stuart Cork, led a crowdfunding campaign to raise money to have our new music produced by a professional orchestra and singers.  Thanks to the generous support of friends and family, the team exceeded all expectations and were able to enlist the support of the experienced German producer Knut Kornatz and his orchestra and singers to produce the new XS music.  And Wicked was born.

Using the dramatic music from the Stephen Schwartz musical, the routine opens with No One Mourns the Wicked and then includes musical theatre standards such as For Good before closing with the iconic Defying Gravity. The team dance four blonde Glindas and four black-haired Elphabas, costumed in the ubiquitous green.

XS Latin debuted Wicked at the British Open Formation Championships in Blackpool on 1st June 2016 and was delighted to place third on this occasion.  Following this success, XS Latin took Wicked to victory at the 2016 and 2017 UK Adult Formation Championship, the 2017 British National Formation Championship title and, memorably, the 2017 British Open Latin Formation Championship, the team’s first British Open title.  In December 2017, XS Latin danced Wicked for the final time at the World Championships in Vienna, becoming the first British team to make the semi of the World Championships in 14 years and the first time the Cambridge-based club achieved this feat.
