Ten teams came to Blackpool to contest the 2014 British Open Formation Championship, including teams from China and the USA.
XS Latin Cambridge A Team, fresh from their success at the Europeans and dancing their Girl From Tiger Bay routine for the first time in the UK, drew second and danced an energetic and attacking semi-final, achieving full recalls to the final of the Championship.
Following them onto the floor were XS Latin B team, dancing their Blues Brothers routine. The team opened with precision and great team work and the first half of the routine was widely acknowledged as the best the B team have ever looked in competition. However, a few small errors in the second half with patterns and tricks left them one place off the final in a very creditable seventh place, making them the highest placed B team in the competition.
The final consisted of three Chinese teams, two English teams and a team from Wales. XS Latin opened the final with a performance that, whilst it may have lacked some of the energy of the semi-final, showed encouraging improved patterns and team work. The team were satisfied with their performance and the result of fifth place which made them the highest placed English team and sees them qualify as the number one English team for the 2014 World Championships.
The three teams from China took the three medal positions. The Guang Zhou Arts School deservedly won the title with their quirky Dracula themed routine. The Secondary School of Beijing Dance Academy placed second with their very theatrical take on the animated movie, Rio. Third place was taken by Beijing Ballroom Dancing Academy with their Rhapsody in Blue choreography.
