The third Russian Debutante Ball was held at the Grosvenor House hotel, Park Lane, London, on Sunday 15th November 2015.
After XS Latin A team’s well-received performance at the 2014 ball, the team was delighted to be invited back for a second year to perform at this exclusive social event.
Similar balls take place in Vienna and, of course, Moscow, and bring together the great traditions of Russian culture. The patron of the ball, Princess Olga Andreevna Romanoff (a descendent of the last Tsar of Russia), was in attendance, together with Princess Michael of Kent.
In the opening ceremony 60 debutantes, all dressed in lavish floor-length bridal gowns, gloves and tiaras, performed the polonaise. Several of the young ladies were partnered by XS Latin men. The choreography was by Leonid Pletnev, with music provided by the Russian Virtuosi of Europe symphonic orchestra. Many of the debutantes had taken lessons with Karen Hardy to perfect their dancing skills prior to the event.
Perfomances continued with a solo by the prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Theatre, Evgenia Obraztsova, and world famous Russian accordion player, Aydar Gaynullin.
XS were extremely privileged to perform after such distinguished artists, and the crowd reception was wonderful and welcoming. Afterwards, the floor was opened to everyone, and the evening continued with dancing to the wonderful music played by the Len Philips Big Band until 01:45! A truly memorable evening!
